I’m devoting a post to Belysa, Ecgric’s bank alt. She is pictured above standing in her favorite location, next to the mailbox in Silvermoon. Actually, I don’t know if that’s really her favorite place, but she does spends a lot of time there. When she isn’t posting auctions from Ecgric, she’s picking up auction winnings. She’s managed to parlay the junk Ecgric has sent her into about 500g. It’s not a fortune, but I think it puts Ecgric on track to buy his epic riding when he hits 60.
Everyone should have a bank alt. Actually, “bank alt” is a bit of a misnomer. Belysa almost never visits the bank. She’s really an “auction alt”, since her role is to take the stuff that Ecgric sends to her and post them to the AH. I use Auctioneer to figure out what prices to set. Auctioneer keeps a database of auction prices that it updates whenever you search the AH. You can also initiate a full scan of all the auctions, which helps to keep auctioneer’s database up-to-date. I should probably be scanning periodically, but I never do. I just let regular AH searches populate the database. I don’t have the best data with that strategy, but I still manage to sell stuff and make some gold.
Lest you think Belysa is resigned to slave labor for the rest of her life, I’ll point out that I am giving serious thought to leveling her someday. She is a hunter. I”ve leveled hunters before, so leveling another wouldn’t quite be the new experience that leveling Ecgric has been. But I would very much like to tame Loque’nahak some day, and Belysa may be just the hunter to do it.
I have to say, from that picture, she’s definitely resenting you. Be careful, let Ecgric wake up with an arrow in the back…
I essentially have a rolling bank alt because there comes a point when, like you, I feel faintly guilty, get attached and start levelling them.
Currently I’m using a warlock, which makes me feel particularly guilty. After all, he signed up to harness fell power and blight the world with dark magics … not stand around near the AH in Org waiting for me to send him ore.
Now that you mention it, she does have a a look of resentment. I thought that might just have been something she ate. Fortunately, Ecgric is always on the road, so to speak, so hopefully he can stay clear of her.
And maybe she’ll be a little happier when she can get out and explore. Then I might force Ecgric to be the banker. After all, turnabout is fair play. Being dead, and all, he might not mind, though.
I have found that auctionmaster works better, because it looks at the current sell price. when there is none of that item listed, it suggests a price a certain percent higher than the vendor price, which isn’t always best for everything. That is a small thing to deal with, when you factor in the memory that auctioneer uses. Auctionmaster is much lighter.
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve been meaning to try out a new auction addon. Auctionmaster sounds like it’s worth a look.
